Flexibility is key for the inclusion of migrantlearners

On 27 June 2025, the Gender Equality Task Force led by EAEA, EfVET and EARLALL

organised an online seminar on the topic of “Inclusion of unemployed women into

the Labour Market”.

The Gender Equality Task Force initiative was launched in 2023 by EAEA, EfVET and

EARLALL to gather interested members from the three organisations and organised a

series of initiatives that encourage discussion on EU policies and strategies related to

gender equality in lifelong learning.

The online seminar organised on June 27 gathered 28 participants to hear about good

practices and policies across Europe, which all work to advance on integrating women

into the labour market.

In the context of this event, Viola Pinzi, Technical advisor at European Association for

the Education of Adults, presented the PRISCILA project and its experience in designing

and delivering flexible learning pathways in the format of micro-credentials, to empower

migrant adult women.

Microcredentials have emerged as a flexible, targeted form of credential and learning,

which can support specific skills and competencies. While they initially gained traction in

the formal education and professional training sectors, their application in the non-formal

learning context has grown rapidly in recent years.

In PRISCILA, partners developed two micro-credentials for the non-formal adult

education sector (for learner and for trainers), merging non-formal education

methodologies (theatre of the oppressed, deep democracy, critical incident methodology

and spatial assemblages), with more formalized approaches to quality assurance of

learning design and delivering digital micro-credentials through the European Digital

As general conclusions from the event, we observe as flexible approaches (such as micro-

credentials, short courses, blended or online learning, and recognition and validation of

prior learning) enable migrants to balance learning with family life, gradually build or

update relevant competence, and gain confidence and autonomy. In the long term, such

flexible learning can facilitate also entering or re-entering the labour market and plays an

important role for people empowerment and inclusive economic participation.
