Target Group and Objective
The PRISCILA Project was designed for migrants, who came from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, to support them in their initial familiarisation and orientation in their new country. With the help of the activities organised as part of the PRISCILA Project, they were able to share their experiences, culture, plans and goals in a welcoming, inclusive environment.

Challenges and Solutions
As the district of Cham is a very extensive district with many small communities that are difficult to reach by public transport, refugees and asylum seekers often feel isolated. Although they regularly attend so-called ‘integration courses’ to learn the German language and thus improve their chances on the labour market, they often feel isolated in their free time. The workshops, which were offered as part of the PRISCILA project, allowed them to meet in their free time and develop not only their German skills but also their communication, teamwork, creativity and spontaneity in a fun and respectful atmosphere.
Methodologies and Steps
All activities that take place in the workshops organised by the PRISCILA project are based on one of the following methodologies: Critical Incident, Deep Democracy and Theatre of the Oppressed.
Here are examples of activities carried out that are categorised under one of the three methodologies:
Critical Incident: The Norms
The activity “The Norms” aimed to establish norms for good relationships in daily life. By focusing on a relatable topic, all participants could contribute equally, sharing their experiences and ideas. The activity encouraged discussions and engaged even the more reserved participants. The task was to establish standards for peaceful neighbourhood life, emphasizing consideration and respect. This approach made the activity both educational and engaging, encouraging critical thinking and the expression of personal experiences.
Deep Democracy: The Tree of Life
The activity aimed to encourage participants to reflect on their lives, roots, and future aspirations. It fostered attentive listening and mutual respect. Despite being new to many, participants engaged deeply, creating a calm, creative atmosphere. The task involved drawing a tree of life, which took longer due to the participants' dedication to artistic design. Presentations were accompanied by meditative music, and participants used translation tools to express their dreams and wishes. The activity was popular, with genuine interest and attentive listening observed throughout.
Theatre of the Oppressed: Interview with role change
The activity aimed to develop personal, social, and learning skills. Participants reflected on their own feelings, thoughts, values, and behaviour, and then focused on understanding the feelings, experiences, and values of others. The combination of role-taking and assuming another identity was new to many, fostering active and attentive listening, as well as self-confident, clear communication. The activity also allowed participants to choose not to answer certain questions, which was particularly appreciated for private or sensitive topics. Overall, it was an excellent opportunity for participants to get to know each other better and share personal experiences.
Applications and Insights
The PRISCILA Project introduced a refreshing change to the classroom routine for both learners and teachers. Through engaging and cooperative activities, participants were able to connect in an inclusive and respectful environment, sharing their cultures, life experiences, and future plans. These activities can also be implemented beyond the German classroom, such as in other language courses or “integration classes” at secondary schools attended by migrants from diverse countries and cultural backgrounds, fostering respect and harmonious coexistence.
Lessons Learned and Emotional Impact
The PRISCILA Project led to numerous positive and lasting changes, especially since it was an integration course that would continue for several months. The teacher observed increased willingness to help and respectful interactions among learners. Notably, quieter individuals became more active and confident, contributing more to the class.

Resume:
Over the course of three days of PRISCILA Project, an inclusive environment fostered a sense of community where everyone respected and learned from each other, sharing deeply personal thoughts. The atmosphere was peaceful, attentive, and relaxed. Participants had the opportunity to gain insights into themselves and their fellow human beings. They learned to present their own culture more effectively and showed genuine interest and curiosity about other cultures and their values. Active listening, respectful handling of differing opinions, and a friendly tone during discussions were the cornerstones of this workshop's experience.
